...Blasted Earache...

Plugged eustachian tubes (which lead from the back of the throat to the middle ear) are the most common cause of earache. The situation is usually aggravated by a cold, sinus infection, or allergy. Well it's a fact, earaches are worse at night, and the reason is because at night your lying down and those eustachian tubes I told you about can no longer drain naturally into the back of your throat.

What to do:

1. Sit up- A few minutes up right will decrease the swelling and start the tubes draining. Swallowing will ease the pain.

2. Warm some oil to body temperture- Baby oil or mineral oil will work. Then dropping a drop or two of oil in the offending ear will help lessen the pain.

3. You can also count on pain killers- (acetaminophen, or ibuprofen) will usually buy you time until you can get to a doctor.

CAUTION: Never drop fluids into your ear if you think the ear drum may be ruptured or punctured.
